A couple of year's back, when my father was still alive, he often used to encourage and assure me with these words, "Don't worry be happy. God is my friend. He'll make things right for you. As long as I'm there, you don't need to worry about anything."
Now I'm a parent myself and I guess it's my turn to echo his words. But unlike him, I can't promise my daughter that God is my friend and everything will be great. Nevertheless, I hope this poem gives her the encouragement and confidence to override all obstacles in life.
I can't promise you that things will turn all right
There will be ups and there will be downs.
I can't promise you the world
But I'll try and shoo away your worries
And help you conquer your fears.
Sometimes life is not easy or fair
I can't make it simple for you
Or promise to be there every time you fall
But I'll be there to encourage you to stand tall in the face of adversities.
I can't always protect you from what is wrong
I can't stop you from making mistakes
But I'll support you to learn from them.
I can't always agree with you
I can't promise I'll never get angry
But I'll be there to listen to you
And make an attempt to understand you.
I can't promise you the smiles all days
There will be tears too.
I can't promise you the stars or the moon
I can't promise you the sun all times
There will be days when it'll rain.
But when the going gets tough
And the future seems blurred
I'll be there for you.
I'll be there to share your dreams
And help you make them turn true.
I'll be there to support you in failures
I'll be there to cheer your victories.
Sometimes you'll have to endure pain
I might not be there to hold you tight
And say everything will be all right.
But I'll always love you
And wish you the very best in life.
You'll always be there in my thoughts and my dreams
And I'll be struggling to make friends and peace with God
And ask him to make things right for you.
